Our Mission

The Keshet Schools were founded on several ideological principles chosen to enhance our core values. Respect, knowledge and tolerance are three pillars of our educational model, and are reflected in the unique curricula we produce as well as in the constant dialogue that is encouraged among all constituents of the Keshet communities.

  • In order to gain equality, the Keshet community (students as well as staff) includes a fairly equal number of families that observe religious precepts “in different halachic manners”. Diversity is promoted not only in regard to Judaism but also in regard to social-economical background, learning styles and other differences among people.
  • In order to foster the distinctive identities of each student and at the same time to create a uniting experience, students study together in mixed classes, and are taught “in two voices” - secular and religious. There are separate classes for some specific subjects.
  • Questions in general and questions of identity in particular are constantly encouraged in classes.
  • The Keshet model encompasses a full range of classes for children in kindergarten through 12th grade, and our curriculum is written in a spiral way according to expanding circles of identity (self, family and home, community, city, country, the world) in keeping with the developmental stage of the students.

The Keshet Association, which is a nonprofit organization, was established in 1995 alongside its first school. The Association has multiple goals that derive from the same values:

  • Develop curricula for schools and other educational Keshet institutions.
  • Support the educational structure by providing additional trained staff to work in the schools.
  • Support the Keshet schools by providing ongoing professional development.
  • Extend our work to more schools in the country in order to positively benefit the Israeli education system.
  • Provide pre-training professional development for teachers in the field of Israeli Culture, together with the David Yellin Teachers’ College in Jerusalem.
  • For the Jerusalem campus: ongoing operation of the school as well as educational pluralistic communal activities – during school hours and beyond.
