Jerusalem Community

The Keshet School in Jerusalem welcomes students from all areas of the city. This geographical span presents a challenge for communal life and activity at the school.

Nonetheless, since many families have more than one child here because the school prioritizes enrolling sibling applicants, Keshet has a "homey" feeling. Families at Keshet work hard to create a cohesive community.

With the support of the Executive Director of the Association, in 2009 parents established a team for Community Outreach (צוות קשרי קהילה). The team offers various activities to the large Keshet School community, among which are:

  • Afternoon movies for young students and their families, accompanied by expert presentations on related subjects
  • Bicycle trips for families on Friday afternoons, ending with a picnic gathering for Kabalat Shabbat (welcoming the Sabbath)
  • Games night for adults
  • Guided tours for families in Jerusalem related to specific events (Hanukka, Jerusalem Day)
  • Spring picnic and afternoon activities for families
  • Study sessions on) ancient and modern Jewish texts, for parents with K-3rd grade students
  • Women at Rosh Hodesh (first day of the Jewish month) – an innovative project that combines mothers and daughters around issues of feminine interest
