Keshet operates within an Israeli educational environment where religious and secular students learn in separate state schools. This separation contributes to the existing political disconnect and cultural alienation between various communities in Israel, and it weakens the social solidarity in the country.
In addition, the Israeli separate school system presents a significant problem for families who do not define themselves at either end of the spectrum of Halachic observance. It forces them to choose an educational environment for their children that is based on narrow definitions of religious observance.
Keshet is a unifying and comforting force in a land where separation is a reality. It creates and runs schools where families from a broad range of beliefs and practice come together to learn more about their Jewish roots, traditions and/or commitments, and to become knowledgeable and coherent about their Israeli identity.
