Between Proximity and Distance in the Book of Leviticus (VaYikra)

The curricular framework for The Book of Leviticus is based on proximity and distance:
  • Closeness to God and distance from Him
  • Closeness to ourselves and becoming distant from ourselves

We study the laws of sacrifice as an aspect of the desire to move close to God and the ways to fulfill this desire while maintaining appropriate distance. The curriculum examines Parshat Kedoshim in particular depth while emphasizing the personal and social aspects of the Mitzvot and values that derive from the parashah.
