Keshet operates in an Israeli educational environment in which religious and secular students learn in separate state schools. This separation contributes to the existing political disconnect and cultural alienation between various communities in Israel, and it weakens the social solidarity in the country. Also, the separate school system in Israel presents a problem for families who define themselves in various places along the spectrum that includes cultural Judaism through strict observance of Halachah. It forces them to choose an educational environment for their children that is based on narrow definitions of religious observance.
The Keshet Association encourages and supports Keshet Schools by developing curricula that present a broad spectrum of opinions and views in Jewish culture. It offers on-going teacher training and runs in-training seminars in the schools. The Keshet Association also offers training for young teachers studying at the prestigious David Yellin Teachers College in Jerusalem.
