In 2009 Keshet opened a new track for student teachers at the David Yellin Teachers College in Jerusalem. The Track was designed for elementary school studies in the area of Jewish Culture (תרבות ישראל). The syllabus of the course includes many subject of Jewish Culture which are taught by college professors of different disciplines: Bible, History, Literature, Language Arts and Oral Law. With support of the didactic trainers of the college we develop unique ways to enrich students’ learning experiences and introduce innovative teaching methods.
Student teachers attend classes about: Special milestones in the Jewish Life Cycle (i.e. Birth, Bar-Bat Mitzva, Marriage, Death) The cycle of the Jewish Year Interactive and peer learning The reflection of rich Jewish language in the daily school communication, as well as its presentation on bulletin boards.
Major content areas are: Jewish expression over generations - textual as well as artistic. Didactics – Integrative teaching of Jewish and general subjects including interdisciplinary teaching techniques. An overview of the elementary school as a whole – learning ways to turn values and acts of Jewish Culture into major building blocks of each student's identity and culture.
